Last week, President Donald J. Trump tweeted threats to North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un about initiating a nuclear war. Experts agree that this is the closest we've come to a nuclear conflict since the Bay of Pigs Crisis of 1961.
The Church is clear: the use of nuclear weapons is never justified, particularly in a pre-emptive manner. As people of faith throughout the nation, we implore the President to stop the threats and to seek a secure and lasting peace.
As Pope Francis and his predecessors say clearly, "War never again! Never again war!" The only fruit of war is death, and we implore the President to do what it takes to avoid another deadly American-led conflict.
